Nice price, but it's a 720p.

I think this is the same one that they had at Costco for $399 and is at Target for $447. Anyone know how the SD quality is on this set?

Still $309 for a 720p tv is ok, but not great since you can grab a cheap new coby for $339 at newegg plus im not sure about it not having a pc input.

I'm about to purchase a TV for my bedroom but I was looking for a 37 or 42. I don't know if I should settle on this one; tough to pass up the price.

Are there any TVs that also make great PC monitors?
I guess this isn't one of them?

My current 22" LG lists all kinds of PC resolutions, but only one looks decent, not really great...

Apply the Katamari way of thinking:
It may have turned out bigger than you expected, but you deal with it, anyway.

This price leaps into the vacuum.
New egg just had a Panasonic TC-L32X1 32" 720p LCD $334 after Bing CB, and that was a NEW set.

Plus tax and enviro fee for CA residents.

That makes this way cheaper.

Even so, you're right, the price of today's woot is too high for a refurb. Pass. Wait for Black Friday!

We bought one of these TVs when WOOT was selling them last year. Great TV. No problems. We bought a swivel wall mount so we can direct it toward two areas of the room. Works great and only cost about $35. The only problem we have encountered was that this model has no external jack so you can't use headphones. Not a major loss but it certainly was a surprise. I thought everything had jacks included.

That's as in NOT p, and NOT 120

and only 2 HDMI inputs.

Some computer video cards now have HDMI outputs which connect to this easily and include full audio.

Prior to that, you could get a DVI-to-HDMI cable to connect computers to HD displays, and they will let you get up to 3 meters (10 ft) away, with an all digital signal.

Before that, you'd use an S-video like connector to get analog video and audio. But that was analog and degraded from the digital version.

In any case -- they list the common VGA, SVGA, XGA and WXGA formats supported if you chose to use this as a computer driven display. Many people are using computers as HTPC devices. Thats Home Theater PCs (HTPC).

You can get a Vesa compatiable mount for anywhere from $40, online, up to $400. Vesa is kinda of an industra standard, kinda of like "RCA" cables were the industry standard. You shouldnt have any trouble finding a Vesa wall mount. You will on the other hand, need to verify the spacing, but most wall mounts these days are universal and come with a variety of brackets to fit your tv.

I believe it does have RCA audio out jacks, you should be able to go to Radio shack and find an adapter from RCA Male to Headphone female or simply go here: http://www.antonline.com/p_40424-NX_520805.htm

Between $70-$110, unless you have a friend that works at Best Buy... Then it's only like $30. The markup is unbelievable.

I find NewEgg is a very handy shopping guide because they allow you to filter the results.

In this size category, under 41" TVs, I found many results, from $18 to $80. Link below.

They are all different styles, as well as swivel mounts and ceiling mounts, so you may want to check out the options.

Here is a link to a group of wall mounts at NewEgg to get you started.

I bought this TV from wal mart a couple of weeks ago. I paid $398, and it was on a price cut. Normally $575. Really good price for a TV like this. I'd spend the extra money and get a non refurb, but, utimately thats up to you.

3 inputs.. also, you want to tell me where you can buy a 1080p tv that displays at 120hz for 300 bucks?

Didn't think so.

I am not exactly sure what you are getting at here. This is not the worst deal in the world or anything.

I had this TV for about a week until I got sick of it. It looked great, and had a nice picture for 720p, but it gave me a hard time. I hooked up my Xbox 360 to it via component cables, and it didn't work. I thought it may have been my Xbox 360 or the cables, but I had a friend come over, and we tested out my 360 and his cables, his 360 and his cables, and his 360 and my cables. Nothing seemed to work. I also ran into a couple of snags trying to set it up as a monitor for my computer, but eventually figured it out

I returned it to Walmart, got my money back, and with it bought a Sony KDL-32L5000 for $50 more. It was a lot better - came with 3 rather than 2 HDMI inputs, a VGA adapter (that this Philips doesn't have, btw), 1 more component input, had a better picture, and was very easy to set up as a monitor using an HDMI to DVI adapter.

Maybe mine was just the one defective one from the batch, but my brother has an older Philips 32" TV that had some quirks too.

As said when Woot has the Vizio, I'd wait and buy a TV during the holidays.

The economy is in the sewers of Paris big time (more than what anyone is letting on) and electronics are especially suffering.

I read in a number of places that the manufacturers will be unloading 2008-2009 stock for insanely low prices this year.

So I am waiting until Black Friday or December to buy a TV at CostCo.

If you can wait, that's what I recommend. CostCo extends any manufacturer warranty by one year. Plus they have the 90 days no-questions-asked cash refund policy.

The warranty is especially attractive for me. I have a nice Dell 26" LCD TV that stopped working one day. It's on a wall waiting for a replacement... from CostCo.

Bonus Tip: If you want to save a ton of money and live near San Francisco, cruise around my neighborhood on Nob Hill. People are putting on the curb mint condition Sony Trinitron and Wega TVs that they replaced with flat panels.

A Sony Wega is a beautiful TV but I can't ever go back to those space hogs and energy wasters. I saw a 32" Wega sitting in a stack of tossed elctronics on a curb a few blocks down my street. They even had the remote in a plastic bag taped to the TV. Now that's great customer service.

the big knock on this tv based on the CNet reviews was the audio volume, though I have the 47" Philips 120hz refurb (back from a woot in late 2008) which has great audio (both quality and volume). Hopefully Philips addressed this problem in the ol refurb shop.

My girlfriend is buying one.

This is good to point out to people.

The "new way" is for computers to have an HDMI port and to connect to a TV/monitor that way.

My girlfriend just bought a bargain basement HP notebook ($500) and it came with two HDMI ports.

Besides, there's HDMI to DVI cables if one really needs that.

And HDMI to HD-15 VGA:

many notebooks dont have hdmi but most do have the vga. Many video cards still only have dvi and an adaptor to vga, just bouth a gt9500 and it doesnt have hdmi so I had to get an adaptor for hdmi. my wifes 2 yearold hp notebook only has the vga and my 6 month old netbook only has a vga, both still push hulu to the tv quite well but if it has hdmi it would be awesome.

granted i dont shop there often because i get a door ding every time i go there but i dont see how it leaps into the vacuum the life out of the USA.

In this economy many are grateful that walmart is out there with good bargains and it keeps other stores in the neighborhood honest!

I'm sure the Philips is plenty bight. Most manufacturers play a numbers game with the contrast ratio, quoting ridiculously high numbers that are meaningless without divulging the testing methodology.

It's only a 32" screen. You probably couldn't see the difference between it and a 1080p in the same size, unless you were sitting inches away from the screen. Besides that, most content is natively 720p. If you're using it to watch broadcast tv and not Blu-ray movies, you almost definitely couldn't see a difference.

jeffwinz wrote:seems like a terribly low resolution for a 32" tv, and frankly it will be pretty noticeable

A 32" screen is around the limit when it comes to human eyesight and not noticing a difference in picture quality between 720p and 1080p. It's at the high end though, so while you can't tell from the couch, you can definitely tell if you're sitting right in front of it.
